this is how it is for me. this is how it’s always been. i’m not afraid anymore. i can put down straight instead of hinting at it in patterns of art and rationalizing it in thought. this is no metaphysical chicanery. i’m not arguing. i’m describing. i want to talk about vision. you can call it transcendence, you can call it hallucination, you can call it psychedelics, you can call it mind expansion, or fantasy, or pathetic delusion—i call it vision, that glimpse through the passive/utilitarian barrier of perception to a wider, therefore a more complete awareness.

How come when it’s with us, it’s an ‘abortion’, and when it’s with chickens it’s an ‘omelet’? Are we so much better than chickens all of a sudden? When did this happen, that we passed chickens in goodness? Name six ways that we’re better than chickens. See, nobody can do it. You know why? Cause chickens are decent people. You don’t see chickens hanging around in drug gangs, do you? No, you don’t see a chicken strapping some guy to a chair and hooking up his nuts to a car battery, do you? When’s the last chicken you heard about came home from work and beat the shit out of his hen? Doesn’t happen. Because chickens are decent people! — George Carlin (via we-are-all-earthlings)
